A new voice from Sweden, a new single from Japan’s masters of melodic noise and a mystery man from the UK headline our favorite spins at MP3 HQ. Let’s take a trip around the globe and dig into the three favorites from the week that was.

Yesterday on the pop side, ptorts turned us on to a new singer from Sweden, Soso, and her single “Who’s Gonna Make Love.” Welcoming her into world of Lykke Li and Nina Persson, he equated her “evocative pop music with layers of swirling electronica” to “a punch to gut” noting that, “for some, that means a breath of fresh air.” Soso’s song can be found on her DIY release, That Time I Dug So Deep I Ended Up In China.

While maintaining the driving fever of their previous works, the new single by Boris called “Spoon” shows the band at their most accessible, most melodic and most thoroughly hypnotic. Now almost 20 years into their genre-defining career, the trio out of Japan have 20 albums and countless EP’s and singles in their catalog. This one’s from their new album called New Album.

At the other end of the musical spectrum, almost, is the mysterious alt.country singer out of the UK named Torin Brown. He’s left little more than a bread crumb or two in his wake — so we know little of him — but his Tom Petty-meets-the-Volebeats-meets-Big Star cut, “When The Night Falls Down,” won’t stop spinning on our MP3 player.
